Evangelism: What Evangelism is Not
Evangelizing is one of the most important actions that Christians can ever do. And to help us understand better what evangelism is, it is helpful to see that evangelism is not. Some of these things are very good and we need to do them. Some are actions that will help open the door for someone to hear about the gospel. But by themselves, these things are not evangelism. Inviting someone to church service is not evangelism. Letting people see our good works is not evangelism. Community work (individual and as a church body) is not evangelism. Speaking of the need to live better lives is not evangelism. Promoting political ideas is not evangelism. Making someone believe is not evangelism. Teaching some Christian doctrines and teachings is not evangelism. Church growth strategies are not evangelism. Apologetics (defending the faith) is not evangelism. Personal testimony (though a testimony can contain the gospel) is not evangelism. Getting a decision is not evangelism.
